What kinds of holiday items are you accepting for donation?

We are ONLY seeking holiday ornaments, stars, menorahs, and kinaras. We appreciate that you might be interested in donating other kinds of holiday decorations, but we are keeping our scope limited to these items for clarity with out donors, storage and dispersal capacity, and clarity for the impacted survivors who come to select from our collected donations.

What do you mean by “Vintage, Handcrafted, and Unique”?

We hope to bring holiday objects to the people of Altadena that they could not easily replace themselves. Unique, vintage, or otherwise rare ornaments (think fun shapes, mementos of popular destinations/ sports teams/ museums, or retro designs). They do not have to be completely one of a kind, but something with personality that people can connect to. Handmade items are particularly meaningful, and we encourage everyone of all artistic and craft levels to share ornaments, stars, menorahs, and kinaras created by hand.

Is there a deadline that donations need to be received by?

We ask that donations be received by November 24th so that we have a few days to organize for the dispersal event. If you are shipping items to us, we recommend trying to ship by November 10th in order to ensure they arrive on time. Later donations will be taken until Dec 8th for our second distribution.

How many ornaments will survivors be able to choose at the dispersal event?

The details will depend on how many donations we receive, and the number of attendees we expect at the event. Fire affected families will be able to choose at least one menorah, kinara, star, or ornament, but we are hoping to have enough donations to offer 4-6 ornaments per person (or dare I hope, more?!).

I’m a fire affected individual, do I need to register to participate?

At this time, there is no registration required for this event. Please check back in early November for updated information as the Winter Bloom and Plant Material Markets gets closer. We ask that only individuals whose homes and holiday collections were completely destroyed participate in this event.

I don’t have objects to send, do you accept monetary donations?

At this time we are not set up to take monetary donations, but we have set up a registry for people to pick out and buy items to donate to the community. Click “Registry” at the top of the page to view.

Where do I ship my donations? If I am local can we schedule a drop-off/pick-up?

The shipping address for our UPS mailbox is available under the “Participate” section of this website. If you live locally, we have several drop off locations in Altadena, Glassell Park and Silverlake (details on our home page). We can also work with you to set up a drop-off or pick-up if that is needed.
